I Have A Couple Of Old Tools. A Delta Table Saw And A Delta 6" Jointer. The Table On Both Are Rusty And Drag When Feeding Wood. I Have Been Agonizing On How To Properly Cure This Problem. I Suddenly Had To Get It Done Today. I Used A Circular Scotchbrite Hook & Loop Pad On My Ramdom Orbit Sander And Then Automotive Paste Wax. I May Find Out Later That I Have Ruined The Tools. But For Now They Are Slick.

No harm done, unless you really got in there and ground the surface. Which would take days of effort and much corser abrasives.

As long as you keep it waxed, odds are the rust will not come back.

On the wax, you need to check and see if it has silicone in it. Silicone is bad for wood, it will mess up finishes. If you have it, i'd work to stip the old wax off and switch to Johnsons Paste Wax with the red label. Its not the end of the world, but has the potential to feel like it.

There are myriad products to use if you like to play around, but sounds like you are all set.

Talk to GeorgeL if you need advise on cleaning cast iron.

I had to start with 120 grit wrapped around a 2x4 on my table saw that had been stored in the barn for five years. As long as you keep it flat you are in good shape.

Does the yellow label Johnson's paste wax have silicone?

Not that I know of. The red label is apparently a pre-govt regulation formula that only Johnsons has rights to produce.

I use it a lot, and love it. Sometimes I wish I could use it on my tortilla chips, but the warnings discourage ingestion....
