Approximately 4000 linear feet of Douglas Fir. Boards were used for bleachers in gymnasium approximately 55-60 years old.
90 percent are 9 inch wide others are 7 inch wide and all are afull 1 inch thick. 240 boards are 16 ft long approx 20 boards 8 ft long.

Bleacher wood be it Fir or Heart Pine is nice stuff once you remove the finish and plug the fastener holes. I have just a wee bit in my wood rack currently :gar-Bi............

How hard to remove finish?

What would be the quick way to remove this finish? Paint remover, or just run it through a planer? Seems like some methods would be more effort than others and consequently more cost effective. I am supposing that removing finish in a planer has it own problems.

Now the $2, I presume is per board foot. Does that seem like a good price? I would think it a little high, if indeed it is douglas fir.

I wonder if there is still gum on the bottom of some boards?

A planer is the most efficient way to remove the finish in my experience since it also removes the dings, scars, and impressions from fasteners. Prior to running it through the planer I check with a metal detector wand for hidden staples, metal splices, etc. Gum is easily popped off with a paint scraper and a wipe down with damp cloth helps remove surface grit. I cannot comment on pricing since mine was salvage hence it was free. It is almost inevitable that the planer blades will suffer minor damage and since mine are disposable I have a set dedicated for finish removal. A ROS quickly removes any striations from dinged blades. :wsmile:
