While walking our dog over the weekend, LOML & I came across a burl growing on one of our maple trees. It is about 5' up from the ground, and currently about 4"x4".
Well if you talk to it really nice and sweet the CO2 from your breath will enhance it's growth...but you got to breathe really hard, and talk really sweet. Fertilizer might help also to stimulate the overall growth of the tree :dontknow::dontknow::dontknow:
if you watered and fertilized it regularly it may be large enough to do something within 30 years, where as if you did nothing it may be useable in 50 years. maybe? i've seen the growth rings of a pine that was planted at the end of a drain field that was 20 years old but was the diameter of a 40 yr old tree. so there maybe something to babying a tree but you're still talking about years and years. hows your patience? good luck though.
