I need to see if this 1/2hp well pump motor will run. Don't worry, I don't need it for the well. Cover states it is 115/230v, 8.2/4.1 amp, 60hz, 3450 rpm and there aren't any diagrams on cover plate for reconfiguring the wiring to 110. Pic shows current wiring I'm 90% sure is 230v setup. For multiple reasons (mostly cost) I want to configure wiring to 110v for a quick test.

Post 2 has one black/hot load from switch and one yellow wire to motor.
Post 3 has no connections.
Post 4 has one black wire to motor
Post 5 has one black wire to motor
Post 6 (three clips) has one black/hot load from switch and two yellow wires to motor
Blue wire is "internal"
Green paint on screw post, so I assume it's ground.
Didn't find any posts marked 1 :dontknow:

Any suggestions?

TIA,
Roger

Who makes the motor? Might be able to find wiring info if we knew the manuf. Do the leads have numbers either printed right on the insulation or on bands? If so the info at the links might help though I couldn't match up anything with the configuration you show. You might need to remove the end of the motor housing to see if there are connections or wires behind the terminal board.

Here are some wiring layout diagrams for AO Smith motors (popular pool pump motor) (most manuf. will have an online manual like this):

(go to pp. 28 )

Some generic info:

This might help also and be easier to follow:

http://www.firstelectricmotor.com/motor_connections.htm

Or not this exact one, but something like it:

Have fun!

Thanks for the info, Alan!

It's helpful on several fronts:
1) excellent info
2) makes me realize it's probably better to spring for 220v male plug [have some 12g wire] :laughing7

Oh yeah . . . and ground it

Is it a Myers pump? It looks like their color & they sell most of the jet pumps around this part of the country. I have to assume it's a jet from the direct connect pressure switch with the air entrainment valve.

Dennis,
You are pretty sharp. It is a Century Pump Motor, Jet Pump Duty from a household well. The actual manufacturer was Gould Inc., Electric Motor Division in St. Louis, USA. Frame number is Y48JY.

Lacking experience and unable to find 110v wiring diagrams, I've decided to take the male plug from my 220v table saw to test it. The pump was free, so I've nothing to lose anyway

Thanks for the suggestions folks. Seems I always learn something when I ask questions on NCWWer. Even when, the solution is "don't do something stupid" :rolf:

Appreciatively,
Roger
