This month's contest is boxes. Turned, dovetailed, scrolled, bandsaw, etc. Focus is the woodworking required to present a keepsake box and keepsake can be loosely defined.

This contest will end October 24. Voting will run the following week through October 31.

Rules:
-Must be created/completed within the last 36 months - here's a reason to gift/sell the old and build the new. And, I know these don't get built real often
-One submission per creator/artist per category (month)
-Each creator can win a contest no more than once every six months.
-Members vote for winners so your submittal 'marketing' post should reflect quality. Limited to 3 photos and 500 words. One post per submittal.
- Any Q&A regarding a submittal should be handled by separate post, or DM/PM. Expect questions to be deleted. Separate posts do not clutter the contest thread, avoids vote biasing, and everyone can share How's It Made (Resources forum content).
-In case of a tie, a judge panel will make the selection. Judges' decision is final. Judges will remain anonymous.
-Each monthly contest will have two winners, novice and experienced/journeyman/veteran/pro. Novice is defined as <3 years woodworking, cumulative. "Experienced" is all others. Submitters must indicate if they are novice; honor system applies. If you don't declare, you're an experienced woodworker.

Given that "keepsake" is loosely defined - here's the humidor I built for my son for Christmas 2023.
Ribbon Sapele carcass lined with Spanish cedar. Flame maple top inlay bordered by inked ribbing.
Magnetic actuated custom brass "secret" lock mechanism.

Tea box made December 2023 for my sister. Old barn find walnut and curly maple. Shellac finish. Brass powder and CA glue for the spine and brass dowel for the "hinge." Last entry as a novice if my memory serves correct.

Closes at midnight. Don't let time box you out.
Working the extravaganza so voting may be delayed. Start thinking about your choice.

I made 3 of these presentation/ keepsake boxes as Christmas gifts for my brother in laws. I have been buying these old folding rulers for years with no idea what to do with them. Then this idea struck.
I must admit that I did not do the CNC work. I drew the template on cardboard and a very talented friend turned it into the inside blank with enough space for me to flock. Then I made the boxes. Curly maple and walnut on this one with BLO, buffing and carnauba wax.
So, if it’s not a keepsake box, never mind. If having another person do cnc work disqualifies it, never mind.
I just wanted to show them to someone.

Getting in under the wire.

This jewelry box is made of Claro Walnut and has Padauk interior trays and dividers. The trays and dividers are lined with pig skin suede. All the hardware is solid brass and sourced from Jewelry Box Hardware - Premium Box Hinges | Side Rail Hinges | Brass Hinges. I finished it with two hand-rubbed coats of Odie's Oil and then buffed it with one coat of microcrystalline wax.
