If you are making a list for Xmas with items from Lee Valley, I'll suggest adding this item:

Many of y'all get requests for your muscle power to open jars with a screw top. The lid is hard to unscrew because the lid's seal is being forced against the rim of the jar due to it being "vacuum-sealed". This tool works by prying up an edge of the lid just enough to break the vacuum in the jar. Thus, the external air pressure is no more forcing the seal tight against the jar rim. There are very few jars that my wife cannot open by herself using this tool.

I do this same thing using a teaspoon, Hook the edge of the spoon under the lip from below and squeeze in.

We have a can opener that has a hook style bottle (cap) opener on the side of it, This works very well for releasing vacuum sealed lids; and yes the woman of the house can in fact accomplish this (easily).

Nothing against the LV item... we just don't need it. Once you use this method, you will wonder why it took you so long to discover it; life is plainly easier when opening bottles is easy.
