Hey Folks!

I purchased this secretary today and and spent the day cleaning and reconditioning it.

On the back is a label showing the manufacturer. However, as you can see in the attached photo, the label is shredded. I was hoping one of you wise folks would recognize this label and be able to tell me who it is.

Thank you for any wisdoms!

Ian

Guessing from the remaining letters, I Googled "Novelty Wood Works" and there is/was such a company in Union City, PA and they made slant front desks.

Thank you Phil & pop-pop!

I took your info and found... Novelty Wood Works Co. of Union City, PA opened in 1897 and stopped production in 1912. The remaining trustees filed for bankruptcy on July 2, 1931.

So that makes my little find at least 100 years old. Nice!

Thanks all for helping our member discover its origins - a very nice find indeed. That looks to me like Quarter Sawn White Oak. Any more like it where it came from? I'd love to find its sister.
