I want to build an antique inspired slant front desk or writing desk, but since I'm a novice I would really prefer to get a good set of plans to make things clear rather than me designing it as I go. I love this design and I'm entranced by their history. I'm thinking of making a prototype out of poplar or pine and then later in the future making one out of white oak or walnut. After I build that prototype then maybe I can alter the plans as I see fit.

Here is a general Idea of what I want them to look like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_q0udswsn8E

If you know where I can get good quality plans for something similar please let me know!

Looks pretty easy to sketch out yourself, SketchUp would be even easier. Overall dimension to fit your need unless you're trying to copy a museum piece. If you follow all 8 episodes of the you tube series you can pretty much get everything you need. Good luck and post some WIP pictures.

Wood Magazine is usually a good source for beginner plans.

Probably more than this one plan available from Wood Mag, if you can figure out how to search the back issues.

Also https://books.google.com/books?id=hvsDAAAAMBAJ&printsec=frontcover&rview=1&lr=#v=onepage&q&f=false (American Woodworker, Dec 1991)

if you go to the link, you can order the plan. I have built a few things from wood magazine. They are doable.

There is a fully dimensioned set of plans for a slant-front desk in the April 1993 issue of Woodsmith magazine (Issue 86). It is also available through Woodsmith Plans.

Christian Becksvoort recently built two slant desks in Fine Woodworking. A standup version in issue 257 Dec 2016, and a lap desk in issue 248, July e2015. Pretty complete plans in the articles.

Check the downloads section above, under indoor furniture for a nice set of plans for a slant front desk, and they're free.

Jacob, I’m behind on my reading, so pardon the late reply.

Did you ever locate a suitable set of plans for this standing desk?

Nah, I didn't really. I think what I'll have to do is wait until I am ready to undertake this project and just guess design myself.

Jacob, Roy Underhill did a WoodWrights episode a couple of years ago that was on a standing schoolmaster desk that was similar to what you posted. The video was online at PBS if you want to check it out.

He used SYP construction lumber to build it. I’ve been doing some pieces out of SYP and enjoy using it.

In any case, I’m pretty sure I have the dimensions for that build if it’s something you’re interested in.

Just seeing this. If you're interested in the Christian Becksvoort stand up desk or lap desk, there are both digital plans and printed plans available from The Taunton Press. Jeff linked to one. The printed ones contain full size patterns where appropriate.

You originally posted this from Joshua Farnsworth.

It's the last part of a 17 part series here.

This should give you a good background to start if you like the design instead of some of the others that have been suggested. It's still not a "plan" per se.

I will check it out thank you sir. I would be interested in those dimensions but it's not something I'm gonna jump on right now to build. And actually I think building it from SYP is a great idea. But for now I got some other things lined up.
