Splitting firewood and the wedges were hard to start and wanted to pop out. Adding a primary bevel with an angle grinder made a world of improvement. Now, they usually stick with just one whack of the lump hammer (green wood).
Good tip. I have been starting the split with my hand axe, and then inserting the wedge. Having recently bought an actual bech grinder, guess I will dress up my wedges to save that step.
So easy to push lever on hydraulic log splitter, so I gave up on wedges about 45 years ago. Kept my splitting maul, and sharpened the edge as you did on wedges. Made a world of difference.
