Walnut Coffee Table project

I’ve been working on a coffee table for a frien. I’ve made several pieces for him before and we collaborated on design. I made a dining table and sofa back table/bookcase in black walnut. He specified walnut again although it’s hard to get good quality at a reasonable price. A traditional wood for this style would be QSWO or even cherry, but he likes his walnut furniture.

one feature is a cubbyhole on one side to store magazines and remote controls to unclutter the top. It’s just a spa ce like a drawer pocket without a drawer so that you can reach in. It’s hidden by the overhang of the tabletop.
Finish is shellac seal under polyurethane wiped on.

Charlie, thanks for sharing the pic's. At first I thought simple and elegant design and loved the joinery.. then I saw the shelf which took it up another notch. Wood selection looked excellent too. Beautiful piece!!!!
