Urethane bandsaw tire exploded.

I was just cutting a round cheese board out of 1” black walnut on my delta 14” bandsaw and bang - a piece of my urethane tire shot out the back of my saw. No injuries but a big surprise to see the upper tire totally destroyed. It never occurred to me to replace the tires periodically. I had replaced the original years ago just because Ittura design was offering these snazzy looking orange ones. On examination the tire was extremely brittle. See attachment.

Happens to me every few years.

If you bend the tire, you will see it has become brittle and brakes.

They should print an expiration date on those things.

I bought my bandsaw used and have no idea how old the urethane tires are. I had to step out to see if they felt brittle (they don't).

How long have you had the saw?

I may be a bit too harsh, think I get around 8 years on a set of tires, the ones from Grizzly.

Look at Blue Max Tires for replacements. The orange ones on my saw let go within two weeks of each other, but I had run them for about 20 years.

How old is the saw? Or better yet, how old do you think the tires are? They don't get brittle that easily compared to the rubber ones.

My tire just broke this week also. Did not explode it left a .25 in. crack. The tires are not but 5 years old. I forget what brand they are. They came from E- Replacements.com. Will go with a better tire this time.
