Finally finished a top hat dust separator that I started in early Feb.

Top and bottom plates are plywood edged with maple and covered with laminate. Wall is two plies of vertical (thin) laminate. Outlet tube is 2” PVC pipe.

The hole hole for the outlet pipe was cut with a vintage Stanley 419 circle cutter that I recently found at an estate sale. It’s much more rugged than the General offerings and can use 1/4” metal lathe bits for custom cutters.

Here’a view of the bottom and drop slot.

The first time time that I tried the separator, I absent-mindedly reversed the hoses. It worked with reverse air flow but I don’t know how well since my vacuum has a bag.

Always does my heart good to see a "Top Hat Separator." Phil invented the baffle (the hard part,) and I invented the "Top Hat. Still use the very first "Top Hat." One day may build another that's more compact than original.

Bruce, I have a fuzzy memory of you presenting your top hat at a TWA meeting years ago. Remembered your point about raising the separator to make more room for chips in the bucket.
