Thoughts while tuning up between projects

If I were to design a bench plane... smoother or jack

I would use a flip cap.
I would use the Bailey style adjusters ( I like the idea of the Cosman star)
I would fix the frog seat and use a sliding mouth adjustment.
I might make the cheeks a bit longer, even more than on a Bedrock, for shooting board stability
I would have built in a fitting to allow the tote to tilt, much like some old rebate planes. Again to make shooting easier.
I would have an option with a purpose built iron and cap for scrub use. ( easy with an adjustable mouth)
With thick irons, one could double grind them and get a higher angle, 50 to 55 degrees.

No one does this! Don't care for the screw cap, but tolerable. I want the adjuster down where my finger can hit it, not up high like on a Norris.

Not Veritas, Lie Neilson, Clifton, Wood River, Taylor, Stanley, Kunz, Bench Dog or the various boxed what-evers from China and India. A shame, someone like Jorgensen who decided to make one (cheap) from scratch could have given it some thought and built a market. Even Bridge City took a different look, but I think they missed it.

Then we would truly have a "jack" plane.

Oh well, guess I'll keep my type 6 605c. It works. I better start my next project before I think too hard.
