Well for ya'll that couldn't make it to Hickory for the Kilngspor's Woodworking show and Woodguy's Gathering, here's a few pics of what ya'll missed. My camera batteries died about half way through the sculpted chair demo, so Steve will have to fill in the blanks with his pics. But here's what I have to show:
Woodguy and Vanguard showing the pattern used to create the chair.

TheGathering002.jpg

Woodguy showing how to measure a butt for proper seat fitting. And man a well measured butt makes for a comfy chair.
TheGathering005.jpg

Woodguy showing how the bulk of the wood is removed from the seat by free hand bandsawing. He doesn't seat the stock flat on the table but rather at an angle twisting it as he cuts, to dish out the butt contour. Yes, he is posested while doing this.

Now for the tool porn, a few pics of Woodguy's shop, a very nice place.

Here is everyone talking after an awesome meal of BBQ, incredible chicken breast tenders, all the fixings, and some great home made pie.

Here is Steve dancing a jig after we unloaded Insomniac's new BS
TheGathering013.jpg

Busting into a very well crated saw

Here's Insomniac reconfiguring his mobile base after getting advice from Woodnet regarding the size, it needed to be larger.

The saw uncrated and finally on it's properly fitting mobile base

OK, how do ya'll work on of these thingies?????? Or how many NCwoodworkers does it take to make a bandsaw go???

Well, as you can see despite my poor picture taking, that we all had a great day. If you ever get the opportunity to meet these guys or any of the members of this forum, take it. It's really cool to talk to people in person:lol:
Thanks for looking, Dave:)

DaveO!!!!! I really enjoyed meeting you and the other forum members. A few I had met before, but many were new faces (although not new "names"!). I agree - a great bunch of guys.

Also, I want to extend a great big THANK YOU for delivering that Rikon safe & sound all the way to Hickory. I was seriously worried that your camper would blow off! Wish you could have stayed longer - let me know next time you're in the area - you guys are always welcome.

Sure am sorry I wasn't able to make the trip. Would have been nice to see those that I know and meet those that I don't. Haven't seen Eagle in almost a year now. Sure looks like a good time was had be all. Keep the pictures coming. Maybe we can get together at the Feb show in Greensboro that I go to every year.

Sorry I couldn't make the show. But, I'm right in the middle of my 4 nights of nightshift. I work 14 days/nights a month, and everything seems to happen when I'm working:-(

Was nice to see that Vanguard was still alive and kicking. Even if it was in some rather ugly shoes.

It was a good day. I hope we didn't leave anyone at the show. We were missing a few folks that said they would be there when the demo was over. Hopefully next year the show will actually be better and the demonstration accomodations will be better. We really could have used a bigger more quiet space. It was great to see everyone. I think the demo went well. It certainly was fun and folks reaction to the chairs was awsome. I spent all day Friday answering questions about the chairs.

See ya,

John

John I just want to thank you for hosting such a good day. It was very kind and generous of you feed us all such good food, and open your shop for us to hang out. Especially I appreciate the little extra I came home with. I put it to use today. Way big improvement, over what I was trying to work with. You're a good man, John. I am glad to know you. Dave:)

Enjoy the saw Dave. I just wanted it to be used instead of sit around and collect dust in my shop. I'm sure it is in the right hands now. :-D

Good meeting you and the other ncwoodneters in person.

May I add my heartfelt thanks to Woodguy and his lovely wife for hosting the post show event. It was great to meet such a great bunch of people - same again next year if my budget is up for it!

A big thank you to "WoodGuy (the dumpster) 1975" for rescuing my SKU from the dumpster behind the convention centre - ot was worth a $50 rebate! I would hesitate to ask an old friend, let alone a new one! thanks again.

Now, tool porn - did I pronounce that correctly? New DW 735 installed and making chips!

Excellent! You got the infeed & outfeed tables, too -- sweet.

Oh, and about your pronunciation... let's just say, that's going to take some time

 Enjoyed meeting you.

I'll work on it!

The deal at the show was 10% off which brought it down to $449 from $499 and DW was doing a promo that if you bought any accessory you could apply for $50 rebate. At the show they were giving you the infeed/outfeed table for a $1! Bottom line was $399 - $150 off total list including the tables - how could I not!! Or that's what I told Carol anyway.
