Started my first project in my new shop

My wife likes Adirondack chairs and I have made many throughout our marriage.

The fence that came with our house was made of ceder. So I will be using it for the newest adiron chairs.

Attached are photos of the wood stack and some before and after pics yhst I planed. I like the look of the wood after planing.

This was a good shake out of the cyclone as planing generates the most dust. Turns out I filled the small drum fast! In fact the entire funnel got filled up. I emptied the drum to a 55 gallon drum bag, but I do not look forward to how often I will have to empty it. I am wondering if I can work up a way to attach a big garbage bag directly.

Finally, the shake out helped find any leaks in the system.

Ive found that 3/4 thick cedar is too thin structurally for adirondack chairs, so I only use 5/4 now. FWIW YMMV

I plan on doubling the thickness by gluing up two pieces.

Western cedar is used a lot in intarsia. That’s due to the woods wide range of colors and grain patterns. If you can find some intarsia folks in your area I am sure you will make new friends.
