Sliding Gate

What is the purpose of the slot at the end of the arrow in this picture?

Also at the top. I would guess there is a pin at the top and bottom of the gate that ride in that slot to reduce friction and wear.

My guess would be that there is a pin on the top and bottom slats that run in these grooves.

Maybe to keep from having stop bumpers on the other wall, these are adjustable stops (?)

What they said. Much smoother operation/ less friction/ potential for binding when the gate rides on two points of contact, (the pins in this case), vs just sliding along the length of the gate.

What they all said. You can use small bearings if you want to go elaborate, but the above pix will work almost as well
