Good looking design! What’s the black? Wood, laminate, etc.?

Danny,
It is spray-on chalkboard paint. So they can write the name of the beer-on-tap on the handle. It works well. Although the first one I made of oak and did not fill the pores. Mistake.

Nice. I guess turning the flat piece on the lathe (as oppose s to bandsaw etc) provides perfect symmetry. Great use of chalkboard paint.

The lathe is the easiest way I know to drill and thread the insert into the wood. While it was there I turned it too. It gave a pleasant curve to the side of the handle.

If you are interested I used EZ-Lock 400-6 inserts. And my "mandrel" is a bolt with the head sawn off mounted into a drill chick. The mandrel works great to thread the insert accurately!

I like the chalk board paint idea. And it's good to see you back on the site, Salem. I've been wondering what happened to you.
