Found a great deal at my local Borg (HD). They are closing out Jeldwen wood windows and they are $34-$38, depending on size. They are not code-compliant (not LowE), so they can't be used on the house, but a great deal for shop windows.

LowE is now residential code in NC. If you want glass, no opening, I have found that HD also has a sliding glass door sold in pieces, so you could buy several of the fixed glass panels--they are LowE and tempered and they run around $100 for a 36"x80" (roughly--I think they're actually a little smaller). I used this in a room I added on last year--I just built the opening a little larger than the panel size and trimmed it in with the never rot vinyl trim. Pretty cheap way to get a good sized piece of glass.
