Osage orange is a traditional fiber dye in America. It makes a very nice yellow yarn, and is also combined with indigo to make green.
A friend of mine is a fiber artist and into natural dyes. When I have scraps of Osage Orange that are not suitable for woodworking, I grind them up and send them to her.
Plane shaving would probably be best. Today I just cleaned out my dust collector and ran the scraps through the planer. The results filled four one-gallon ziplock bags.
i might get a new scarf or hat out of this!
