This video link was prompted by a discussion on another forum, and I thought it was just too cool to not pass along.

The video demonstrates the influence of cap iron bevel, cap iron set relative to the blade, and cutting depth to tear out when planing against the grain at high magnification!

Thank you, Sam, that video is a good introduction for me. I don't have any hand planes yet but I have wondered about what all went into making them work properly.
