Is there a difference between what turners call Sanding sealer, and pre-stain sanding sealer?

I would have to read the label of the product to be certain, however, historically a sanding sealer is de waxed shellac with detergent added. The detergent reduces clogging of the sand paper. That’s it in a nutshell, again read your labels.

If you are using it on a turning you definitely want it to be without wax.

Rust-Oleum Zinsser Bulls Eye SealCoat Universal Sanding Sealer. Labeled 100% Wax Free. Aka dewaxed shellac. The wax-free type is not easy to find. I typically cut 50% before use.
