Quick project from the cutoff bin. The jointers mallet I have been using did not have quite the "Whack" for cutting a mortice. So I made one.
Laminated purpleheart using JB-Weld. It is only 4 ounces heavier but hits better. The handle is designed for both up top comfort and alignment in the hand, as well as you can slide down to use it like a hammer. Nice balance with the pommel. I was thinking about a full grain leather face on one end for "adjusting" parts in assembly.
For tappa-tappa, I still like my little brass head shorty.
