That is tempting. I'm curious - can anyone compare the weight of a 18V Li-Ion drill to a 12V NiMh? I've got a Makita of the latter specs that desperately needs replacement. When new, it had plenty of power for most of what I need it for (I have a 1/2" Milwaukee monster for big chores). I like the light weight of the 12V Makita, but I've heard the Li-Ion batteries are lighter. Whenever I've picked up an 18V drill I've not liked the added heft for my needs.

I"ve got a ridgid compact 18 volt Li-Ion driver and the weight is not heavy at all. Quite light with the compact battery pack. They do make a bigger 18 volt pack but the compact packs work great for me. I don't have a problem with battery life but you do have to remember Li-Ion batteries keep their voltage pretty much until they're dead so not much of warning before they are dead so keep a extra pack handy :)
