Resawing close to your final thickness will result in less wasted material. Assuming that you have a capable band saw, you could use 5/4.

Thanks Dan. I'm working on it now.
I just finished the first board with no issues, I'll yield 5/8 easily. I used a blade from Union Saw and Knife: 1/2-x3 tooth, hook. The surface looks smooth enough to sand. But I'll run it through the planer to get all the pieces the same thickness. I looks like I can adjust my blade to cut more nearly in the center of the kerf next time.
