Red Box Elder question

jeff...

I got a red box elder waiting for me to pick up when I get back to sawing. It's been on my hit list for a long time along with Osage Orange.

I was wondering, is red box elder better for lumber or turning blanks?

Thanks

That all depends on whether you asking a turner or a flat-worker. I haven't seen much done with it in board form, I have seen a lot of it turned. I have heard that the red coloration doesn't stick around (just like most of the coolest colored woods :crybaby2:) How ever you cut it, you better cut me some bowl blanks :icon_thum

And some boards too

Dave,

I don't know where you got that picture, but it's really cool. It reminds me of a bear rug hanging on a wall that I saw when I was a kid.

Not being greedy, like DaveO, and being completely respectful of your hard work at sawing, I would be so grateful for one measly little pen blank, if you have any available. Even if it's only big enough for a Sierra/Atlas pen, I would appreciate it. Of course, I am also willing to pay top dollar for your product to begin my showing of this appreciation.

Deepest regards and respect!
Chris
