Hello all,
This is the first time I have ever used Brazilian Ebony. I received my order form Bell Forest yesterday and when cut a slice it was not black as I expected it was yellow white. (See photo below)

Can someone provide some insight?

Wow. Amazing properties.
I get the impression that one would have a hard time getting anything to penetrate that wood, much less a dye.

I have used this wood a couple times, just a couple times making table tops. The first time I cut it I thought I was given a different wood and tossed it to the back of the shop, a month later I saw it darkened, so went on to make a table top which after a few months looked great. You are going to enjoy working it but know it is hell on planner blades and will dull cutting tools. Aside from a few dull tools and a pain to work with (gluing) and stain/dyes don't work well it darkens very nicely.

The wood in Brazil is called in Portuguese CoraÇao de Negro (corasao) it means black-heart pretty wood. A lot of walnut when you 1st cut it does not look black but a week later it does.
