Proportional dividers

Hank asked me to show and explain these dividers.

They differ from regular dividers in the way they are set and read. Some are simply marked as 1,2,3,4 and so on. This means 1:1 and 2:1 and so on.

My biggest/best
pair are more precise and use a chart for the settings. Without the box it came in it is useless.

It has a vernier scale.

In use they are set to the proportion you need then can be open or closed to the setting of your original object or drawing then the other end shows the exact size for the new object or drawings.

I will have some of these for sale if anyone is interested.

Interesting. What about Golden Ratio proportions, or do you just get out the calculator for that? OR, if you're "old school" like me, a slide rule?

Dennis, Fibonacci calipers are commercially available or you can make your own.
I made a set out of clear acrylic so I could see the wood grain pattern through them.
