Has any one had any experience with toothed plane irons? I like to use hand plans when possible but some times the wood is just too unruley to get a good job (tear out, ect). L-N sells them and advertises that they help.
I haven't used them, but I watched a couple of guests on the Woodwright's shop use some this past weekend. The "tooth" in theirs was done with someone knocking indentions into the back of the plane iron. IIRC, they did comment that it helped with unruly boards and it allowed them to make the surface a bit rougher so veneering worked better.
