One of the planes that I found in my Grandfather's garage has had paint spilled on the body. Is there anything that may remove paint and not remove the jappaning. I haven't used any type of remover to try to determine if it is oil or latex based. As old as it is, I would bet oil.

Any suggestions on removing both types of paint?

Thanks for any input. It is a lot of white paint and looks bad.

First try a little minerial spirits and some 0000 steel wool, moisten the steel wool with the spirits and rub gently - a genie may pop out 8-O.

If that doesn't work, try a little acetone, same method. Be careful with acetone, it's some stong stuff and will strip the jappaning off the surface if left on too long.

Thanks
