Oil for planer

A little perplexed here.
I want to change the oil in my planer (15" jet; open stand version of this one) because I have no idea how many hours are on it.

For oil, the manual says to use:
"HD-100, Mobil Gear 627, Shell Omala 100, ESSO Spartan EP-100"

Is that anything like 90W gear oil? I'm clueless here...

BTW, you should have seen the look on my wife's face when I told her I had to change the oil in my planer :lol:
She said, "You have a power tool that needs oil changes?"
I was like, "Yeah...doesn't everybody" :dontknow:

I think it is the same. I bought mine at Advance and it was like 90 to 140.

You really want gear oil. I bought a gallon from Enco - Guaranteed Lowest Prices on Machinery, Measuring Tools, Cutting Tools and Shop Supplies for my 20". I have enough for about 4 oil changes. I think there is a difference between gear oil and motor oil.

Here's a link to the Mobil Gear 627 oil. I'm sure the other recommended oils are about the same.

Don't use a motor oil.

Check out Bob Is The Oil Guy (don't laugh...I'm really serious here...it is a legit site:icon_thum ) and post a question in the industrial lubrication section. Good info there. Fair amount of petrochem chemists and engineers available.
