That visual helped a lot . . . how about the shoulders with the router plane?

I have the Stanley plane. I got it at Klingspor's actually... using our member discount. It needed some work when I got it. Mostly to do with flattening the bed as I recall.

I have the Veritas Planes mentioned as well. I'll use the Stanley as a chisel plane but other than that I prefer the Veritas Medium shoulder plane. As others have mentioned, I would recommend the router plane first. I got it last but I probably use it the most.
