I'm staring the hull for a 1/6th scale 30ft US navy steam cutter/launch (5 ft ) this hull is being built with the woods spec'ed in the 1900 plans,, a few full sized boat builders have helped me out with some harder to source woods, hackmatac and eastern white cedar.. I did have some white oak sections that had sutabile grain for the bow and stern sections, but am looking for some white oak for the frames and floor timbers,, I do relize that there will be lots of steam bending in my future.. the frames are done in each half, planning on bending 3/4" stock and then slicing to get the matched frame set 1/4" thick, the floor timbers are one piece,, the cross section is from the center of the boat and the curves get more extreme in the bow and stern.. to add to the fun this will be a live steam project..
