A buddy pulled this carved fish out of the marsh over the week end and started asking questions: "What kind of wood?" "Hand carved treasure or mass produced tourist trinket?" "How old is it?" etc, etc...

I didn't have a clue. Anyone here have any idea or info? It's fairly heavy, but that may be due to being saturated with water.

I agree that a museum is the best choice.
Google "decoy museum" for several along the eastern seaboard.
I have visited a couple and have seen some fish decoys which may have been used to encourage schooling and make netting easier.
