Please feel free to join us for camping and green woodworking fun at our annual gathering called Kick Back and Carve, April 11-13. This year we will be hosted at the Plant in Pittsboro NC. We are really looking forward to having our gathering and festival at the plant this year they have several restaurants, a local meat market and grocery store, BMC Brewing and a distillery among other shops.

This year at the gathering, we will have a spring pole lathe demo and will provide casual hands on green woodworking skills helping beginners learn how to start from a log and carve a spoon. The GreenWood Wrights’Fest will be October 17-19, where we will offer more formal and diverse workshops, and demonstrations.

We are always looking for freshly cut fruit wood for making bowls or spoons. Cherry when freshly cut is one of the best types of greenwood for beginners to carve. Learning to use hatchets and other hand tools with greenwood is one facet of hand tool woodworking that brings a deeper connection to the forest and community around us.

That looks like fun!
Thanks Berta,

At the gathering we keep things pretty simple and laidback compared to the Festival. We would be happy to guide beginner green woodworkers to make a spoon or a shrink pot. The spring pole lathe demo is also something fun to learn about. The thing I like about turning this way is it is aerobic.

If you or anyone else comes with a few tools we’ll help you get them sharp if need be, and loan you some tools to get you started.

Hope you can come.
