Hey everyone, a good friend of mine has let me hold onto a Shopmaster 12" band saw model SB-233 (google/vintagemachinery.org suggest it's from the 1950's). The motor works, but the bearings and belt definitely need replacing. I was curious if anyone here had any experience with these old saws/ could offer any insight what else I should add to my checklist for getting this thing working. Potentially interested in doing a full restoration job, but just starting with some new parts and getting it working would be a treat!

Be sure that the tires have a well defined crown otherwise you're going to be plagued with tracking headaches.

I checked the specs on that saw and see that it is all ball bearing. That's a very good thing. Some of the small oldies had bronze bushings.

Go to owwm.org and in the search box type: shopmaster band.
Note: If you enter shopmaster band saw, the selection may pick up anything with the band saw phrase. You don't want that.

Get some popcorn. That's a popular small saw to restore.

Good Luck.
