Hutch complete

Hello friends,

After 3 Army moves I finally pulled up my bootstraps and finished this hutch. It moved with us in varying stages of construction. For some reason this project was my kryptonite. I would work on it some and then pivot on another project to completion. Have you all experienced anything like that with a project before? Construction is tiger maple, analyine dye, and amber shellac. Painted wood is black milk paint followed by amber shellac and the whole thing polished off with furniture wax. Wifes polish pottery she picked up on trips to Poland looks great in it.

I normally don't like painted wood, but used in this way to set off the rich wood tones of the rest of the piece, I like it. Very well done. Good cooking takes time - to paraphrase a famous New Orleans restaurant.

Michael,

I'm with Ken, the piece really looks good with the painted frame and rich wood tones on the doors and tops. Very nicely done and is a piece that will be treasured from many years to come.

Michael, very, very nice! I'll have to confess that as I was reading your post I was prepared not to like the project (I am typically not a huge fan of painted furniture), but thank goodness for pictures...the hutch is Beautiful and your craftsmanship is excellent! Thank you for sharing.

I normally dislike multi-tone multi-color furniture projects. This one turned out good and thankfully the colors worked together.

I love the contrast between the black and Maple, something I probably would have never considered on my own. But it really works on that piece.

And welcome home.
