I was eating lunch in a Showmar's in Rock Hill, SC. The table top had an interesting grain treatment to one segment. Does anyone know how/what this is?

It just looks way cool to me...

I can tell you that the top appears to be a wood laminate assembly with a surface thickness of 1/4 - 3/8" thickness.

Perhaps it was stained before lamination?

I had spilled some stain on that type of lumber before and that's what it looked like. So I think they just stained it after getting it to the desired thickness and then added whatever top coat.

I have some LVL drops from the project I'm now working on. I may play around with them to see what happens.......

Jerrye corrected me in that it is PSL instead of LVL. Although my picture was correct. You could probably get a cool effect using edge profile on the lvl though.
