I agree that I don’t think it’s hickory. A picture of the core would definitely help!

Well, it’s covered with anchor seal, now. It had a reddish tint... y’all are likely right. Not the lower pieces in the pic, those are cherry and an unidentified fruit tree.

looks like white oak to me, does it smell a bit like cow piss ? ........ sorry that is the only way I can describe that smell.

Agree with red oak. High school ag teacher told us that red oak is the bark with the ski slopes.
