In the earlier post I just could not find a place to post the details of the build. This is an adaptation of the piece that hangs in Old Salem in Winston-Salem. The idea came after I found a Carlyle Lynch set of plans for the piece. I can never do it according the plans but it helped getting started. I have used his plans before and they are very detailed.

I have an old plane that can only address one side if the grain is finicky. Need to find an old plane and build one for each side of the panel.

Bob I have 2 sawyers in Virginia that I pay to cut figured walnut when it comes to them they call me. Other stuff I take to Scott Smith here in NC

Here is a piece of walnut for a desk lid its17 wide and 30" long.

I always keep lots of sugar maple(figured) for my rifle stocks. I primarily use American wood for my projects.
