Thanks for posting. As the article mentions, there are many small sprouts from old stumps. I’ve come across them in the Mountains of NC. Up around Stone Mountain they aren’t uncommon. My understanding is that the blight doesn’t kill them until they reach reproductive age - 15 years or a little more. Few survive past that.
