Finishing with tung oil...

Hey guys, I know doing boards is a bit of newb item but hey, I'm a newb! I made this group of 12x24 charcuterie / serving trays which will all have 5" hardware installed. Only half inch thick so they are nice and light. At any rate, I've done 3 coats of Milk Paint (50% pure tung oil, 50% citrus solvent) and they are looking great. My question is, can i now add a wax above it like a Howard's or something similar? Most of those have some mineral oil and wax...will it work? Is this advisable? I'm just looking to make them lower maintenance overall as these are all Mother's Day gifts.

Thanks in advance,

Reed

When the Tung Oil doesn't stink, you can apply the wax because the Tung Oil has finally dried.
This takes considerable time (like 3-6 months).

Interesting. The jug of Milk Paint claims "full cure" is 30 days. Your experience is 3-6 months?
Either way, maybe i just don't add the wax at all at this time and recommend it gets added down the road instead.
