This afternoon I sawed off a piece, planed and sanded, and experimented with finish. One side was General Finishes Oil in Warm Cherry. Blotch city. This was applied directly to the wood with no shellac sealer. The other side was Watco Danish Natural. The Watco was very light in appearance and honestly, not a lot of wood beauty. So, ladies and gentlemen, let's drag out our haul, slice off an end, plane and sand, and apply what'cha got. I would post pictures, but I think you get more out of me suggesting that Warm Cherry with no base is not going to make you happy, and neither is straight natural DO.

My skidmarked drawers Gum is drying. Results next year.

May I suggest a coat or two of clear gloss or satin, water based polycrylic to seal it up? Maybe finish it off with more polycrylic. That's what I finished the slab coffee table in and it came out pretty nice. Polycrylic goes on nice with a spray gun and is basically the same stuff that's in fingernail polish, it's a tough finish and easy to repair.

Thanks
