I finally finished the jewelry box. The case is made out of purple heart. The drawer fronts and door panel and back panel are ambrosia maple. The back was resaw and bookmatched. Case construction and drawers are all hand cut dovetails. The dividers are held in with sliding dovetails. Drawer sides are walnut (what I had) and bottoms are eastern red cedar. The hinges are Horton brass small box hinge and are mortise. The finish is just spray can clear. Everything on here was my first and this was my first box. Many more to come. Thanks for looking

Trey, great-looking jewelry box. The combination of purpleheart and maple is stunning—also excellent DTs for some first-time cuts. Someone is going to be very very happy with this jewelry box.

Trey, strong work! Looks awesome! Since the back is solid and not ply…is there any concern with movement with the Brad nails securing it? Also, it could be my old vision but is the door panel raised on the backside? Was curious if maybe you decided the raised side didn’t go well with the flat door fronts and therefore called an audible to hide the raised side? Great color combination with the two species! Thanks for sharing.

With the back panel I glue in the middle only but was having problems with the panel wanting to cup. I should've probably used screws and slotted holes but time will tell. Good eye on the frame and panel... Honestly I cut the mortises for the hinges wrong so I just went with it. I learned a lot making this jewelry box. Made lots of mistakes and had to fix a bunch and remake. Learned a lot of not to do.

Great job Trey! Every time someone post their work, it not only gives me a chance to appreciate the work but also to learn something new. Can’t wait to see what you make next.
