Needed a thank you gift for a neighbor who looked after our cats last weekend, so I turned a bottle stopper. This is some maple I got from Scott Hamm awhile back.

Ed, that looks great. That Maple has great color, it looks a little like Olivewood. What do you think of how those type of stoppers look in a bottle? I think they can look a little top heavy because they don't seat all the way down to the wood. But the chrome does make a much better presentation than the little rubber ends :eusa_thin

To be honest Dave, I've never put one in a bottle! I have one I made for us and never used it. This and another were given as gifts! The short plastic ones are probably more functional, but I like the way these look.

You got the same problem I do....the bottle doesn't stick around long enough to need a cork :eusa_doh: :-D

I've been thinking about making some of the same bottle stoppers as gifts but wonder if they are really practical.

Has anyone found the chrome bottle stoppers to be useful?:-?
