I am not familiar with "mineral staining". It really make the grain pop, and gives a nice tone. What wood is that, maple? Thank you for sharing this!

Bruce..the wood is maple. Here's a pretty technical write-up on mineral staining. This is talking about oak but the same applies to maple

Looking at the growth rings in this batch it appears that it its mostly from boards cut closer to the outside of the tree...so I'm guessing it was caused by damage.

Don, nicely done. Is there a finish on the boxes? The mineral staining is not overwhelming so it's pretty neat.

Oh, yes I am familiar with the natural mineral stain in some woods, but I guess I read your description of your project wrong, and was thinking you used a mineral stain on your work. I apologize for the misunderstanding. Your work is still excellent! And thank you for the explanation!
