Anyone have a favorite BS box book? To me the BS is the most evil machine in the shop but I am determined to use it. I think BS boxes will be enough of a challenge for me.

When I finish the project I am working on and one more I do not have any major furniture projects left. I will also pretty much deplete my stack of wood except for some reclaimed old growth pine that I am saving for something really special.

I really want to spend more time with my horses while the weather is so great but still make a little sawdust. I think BS boxes will be a good way to do this. By the time the dog days arrive I am sure a project will have made its way onto my honey do list.

If anyone would like to have a visitor to their shop while they just happen to be explaining all the ins and outs of making a BS box I am sure I am available:eusa_danc:eusa_danc. I am in Lancaster, SC.

Building Beautiful Bandsaw Boxes is pretty good. I picked that one up, and made a well received gift from one of the plans in it.

ToolFerone on this site has done some nice looking BS boxes, and did a presentation at our local woodworking club. Drop him a line, and talk boxes with him.

You can go to this site http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bandsawboxes and look at the photos and I believe there is section with some instructions for a basic BS Box. Another book is the http://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Band-Saw-Box-Book/dp/1402721935 . That is very informative and shows a variety of different styles of BS Boxes.
Feel free to look at my photos of the ones I have made. But I am by no means an expert as I’m still learning. http://www.ncwoodworker.net/pp/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=1394
They are fun to make and make nice gifts.

You can come by and check out my bandsaws if you are in the area. I have two, a 14" Delta and a big one. I did do a lot of work on the Delta tuning it up and it has made a world of difference in how well it cuts and works in general.

As for the big one, there is no comparison. Having a large (25"x25") table and around a 32" table height is a SWEEETTTT thing. I rarely use the Delta now, and when I do, it is only for curve cutting.

I would agree with Rick's suggestion Lois Ventura's books are some of the best on the subject. Once you understand the basic concept behind a BS box construction it is very easy to design your own, and tweak the method to fit other similar projects.

Somewhere burried in this thread I re-presented a quick pictorial on BS box construction.
