At Meadowmont in Chapel Hill. I took the family today for something to do and because I hope to see some woodworking artisans. Well there were 4 displays of woodworking. All were exceptionally beautiful work. One display was a real eye catcher.

These are translucent pine turnings by Billy Hall

Another artisan Howard Schroeder had awesome carved wood sculpture http://www.howardaschroeder.com

Also, there was Larry Favorite http://www.silverhawk5.com/favorite/ who was showing boxes and sculptural pieces made out of Desert Ironwood. The stuff is heavier than Ipe, and polishes to a lacquer-like finish without any finish. I asked him what kind of BS blade he used and he replied just a normal blade, but only expects about a hour of cutting out of one.

Finally there was Alan Leland, renowned turner, teacher and dang fine furniture maker http://www.alanleland.com/

I enjoyed talking with each of them, much to the family's dismay, as they were ready to see other things.
It was a fun morning for all of us, except for the speeding ticket I got on the way out (why do they have to put Chapel Hill so far away :eusa_doh: :eusa_doh: :eusa_doh: )

Dave,

Thanks for the review. I would have considered going too, but I had a bunch of folks coming over for a BBQ. Next time I hear about that place, I'll plan on attending.

Sorry to hear about the ticket
