Every day when I open the plant where I work, I turn on our compressor on my way in the door. I have had extensive electrical and arc flash safety training in the past, so by habit I always turn my head away from the switchgear when I close the circuit. I also wear EH rated safety shoes. This morning I was glad for my training because as I closed the switch while standing in a puddle of water from the rain one of the phases shorted to ground on the compressor frame. Even with my head turned away, I saw and felt the arc flash. So this is just a friendly reminder to always work safe even when performing routine daily tasks!
