Not arguing...asking. Assuming the fence is on the right side of the blade, how does a horizontal featherboard (or a mechanism on top of the board between the blade and the fence) pushing the board into the fence increase the chance of kickback. I can easily see the problem with any sort of restraint of the waste portion (the part to the left of the blade) of the board. I certainly wasn't advocating for a featherboard after the blade pushing the board and the offcut into the fence. That would be suicide.
Your thinking is correct, with one caveat: If the fence is canted away from the blade at the rear (more than a couple thousandths) just by pushing the the board into the fence could draw the "waste" side into the back teeth. (Fence pushing into the blade at the back is as bad or worse) Basic set-up in fence alignment is the first step in accurate cuts as well as kick back prevention. Just mentioning this because although most of us in this discussion pay close attention to fence alignment, newer table saw users might not. This can be a problem with the table top style (portable job site) saws that have cheap or poorly designed fence systems.
