Anyone know where I can get a 13' dowel or closet rod?

Thank you.

I once needed a 15' handrail and could not find any suppliers that could provide more than a 10' one. I ended up buying 2 8' oak fullrounds, carefully finding center on them, did a little predrilling and used a dowel screw (two ended screws) to join them together. There was some sanding involved to make them match real good but it really looked like I had sourced a 16' long fullround in the end.

It's an option.

I would check Home Depot. Some of their millwork items are stored vertically and can be cut to length. Haven't been there in a while, but it's worth a look.

I have also done this and when the joint did not have a support close to it got sagging when hanging up clothes. This may mean that I did not do a good enough job, but that was the result for me.

In my opinion, if the embroidered tapestry is tall, unless you prestress this (upwards) or can put a support in the middle it will likely sag over time.

:) Gonna use it to hang some embroidered (not for me or by me) fabric on it, kinda like a curtain rod but the fabric doesnt retract.
If the fabric will cover the dowel, another option would be to source light gauge Al or steel tube and turn a plug for each end to simulate a wooden dowel.

If your design allows for a middle support, it could be as pedestrian as 1/2" EMT ($6 for 10'). Sleeve it with something cheap and fabric-friendly like a cardboard tube (mailing tubes, Christmas wrap,...) if you need a large-ish diameter...

For hanging fabric and if I wanted a round top profile visible I would get two dowel pieces long enough and then join them with flat stock from the under side. The flat stock would be 3/4" or so by say 4". Dowel would give you the top profile and flat stock would provide support and prevent sagging.

If it has to be wood and continuously round, you might consider buying stock closet rod, whatever diameter you need, and joining them with a scarf joint that is about a foot long. Much better glue surface area, and easy enough to sand to the rod shape after gluing.

FWIW. YMMV. Good luck.

Consider whatever finish you are planning on putting on this will touch the fabric.
I would suggest a curtain rod instead.
